Mangalam Maami Prize for the Best Limerick:

A limerick is a short rhyming poem that packs a lot of content in 5 lines. Typically, there are two sets of rhyming lines – lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme (and usually longer); similarly, lines 3 & 4 rhyme. The form can be found in England as of the early years of the 18th century. It was popularized by Edward Lear in the 19th century, although he did not use the term. The following limerick is of unknown origin:

The limerick packs laughs anatomical
Into space that is quite economical.
But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

CLASS (Council for Limerick Appreciation Among School Students) is dedicated to the promotion of limerick appreciation. The group collects limericks from around the globe, and claims to have the largest collection of limericks in the world. Competitions are conducted annually during the summer (April 1 to August 31) and prizes given to the best entries. Apart from Mangalam Maami’s daughter, several of her student fans contributed towards the endowment. The Limerick library with CLASS@AEIOU has over 100,000 limericks when last surveyed.
